Snake Egg

Found a clutch of five reptile eggs in my garden. At this point I was optimistic that I would be incubating some cute turtles or perhaps some lizards. Little did I know...

Kitty Socks watches the incubator

My Stray Cat Socks earns some kibble by reptile-egg-sitting. To learn how to make a simple reptile egg incubator go to http://www.naturealmanac.com/archive/hatching_reptile/index.html
Many thanks to the late Jim Jung and his site for educating me on how to successfully hatch reptile eggs and for giving me a better appreciation of certain retiles that previously were NOT my favorite critters.

Yikes! You look like your mother!

The jig is up. These are NOT turtles or lizards (which are critters that I happen to love). They are black ratsnakes (which I appreciate but don't necessarily love).

Peek a boo!

I seeeee you, little black rat snake. Once all five neonates were hatched I released them into the wild (basically an old out building adjacent to the garden where I found the eggs). I'm sure when the little buggers grow up they will enjoy keeping the rodent population down. Good luck and good bye. It was nice hatching you.
